These 5 budget instant pot recipes are a faster alternative to a slow cooker, perfect for busy college students or young professionals. It simplifies meal prep and helps you save money! Just freeze prepped ingredients in Ziplock bags, then cook straight from frozen in as little as 25 minutes.
I don’t think I could have survived college without the easy convenience of my instant pot meal prep opportunities. Cafeteria wasn’t always an option and my university was too far away to be able to go out to grab a quick bite. That and eating out is expensive!
How Budget Instant Pot Recipes Saved Money
Cooking at home and in my dorm room instead of dining out saved me an average of $9–$15 per meal, adding up to over $1400 a year! The best part? That was only when I replaced just three restaurant meals per week. This tactic helped me actually save double what I was saving per month in college and be able to put a down payment on a house a year after graduating.
It was also so much more convenient to go to the fridge throw everything in a pot and hit on then having to get dressed, grab my keys, drive somewhere, order food and wait for it to finish cooking.
Once I learned this I started hunting down and doing research on other meals to diversify the type of food I was cooking at my dorm.
Here are some of my go-to recipes and websites I use that literally allowed me to survive in college and continue to feed me even to this day.
